Welcome back to Salzburger Kunstverein!

We look forward to welcoming you again from Tuesday the 19th of May!

After these tricky weeks, we will open our doors finally. We’ve tried to demonstrate these last weeks that art and culture can be also realised online. However to welcome everyone back into our exhibitions is a great pleasure for us. Please come by!

Closed since mid-March we have had to restructure our 2020 Programme. Since then we also present a new Online Programme, including contemporary video art in the form of Isolation TV, a new Members’ Zone, and videos and images from current & previous exhibitions as well as from our education partner, Artgenossen.

After re-opening, until July 5th, we present previously running exhibitions by Gernot Wieland, Declan Clarke, and Per Dybvig. Omer Fast’s exhibition will continue onwards as planned. We will also launch episode two of the online programme Isolation TV, entitled “A Most Sensitive Nucleus” with the artists: Kevin Atherton, Karl Burke, Çayan’s Friends , Fiona Hallinan/Department of Ultimology, Nathalie Koger, Roy Claire Potter, Eva Rothschild, Patrick Staff, Stanisław Welbel, Stina Wirfelt. The programme is curated by Vaari Claffey. Episode one is already available on our website.

This summer, from July 22nd, we will present our Members Exhibition (Jahresausstellung) entitled Common Ground. The exhibition will be held in our Main Gallery, Kabinett Gallery and also in partnership at the Salzburg City Museum Pavilion. Contemporary art always has a role to play in difficult times. This exhibition will thus embrace questions of democracy, openness, togetherness, how to live and be together, and how to re-establish close proximity to one another are all aspects of this theme. The call for proposals is for artist members of the Salzburger Kunstverein and artists who wish to join as members. The exhibition’s mode of presentation will also will enable every submission of artwork―where possible―to be exhibited. All artwork is for sale and 100% proceeds go to the artists.

Also commencing on July 22nd is Sunset Kino. Founded by Séamus Kealy, Sunset Kino is Austria’s only outdoor, avant-garde film programme. Each Wednesday between July 22nd and August 19th, curated screenings commence after sunset. The theme this summer is “Best.” “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” “Best greetings, best wishes.” “We live in the best country in the world.” “Let’s make the best of this situation.” How does one assess what is best in any given context? This year’s curators and artists each respond to this open theme. Screenings are about 90 minutes. Picnic tables and a bar are on-site. Free entry.

The originally-planned summer exhibition by Megan Rooney has been postponed until October due to current measures and restrictions. The exhibitions by Khalil Rabah and Camille Holowka have been postponed to 2021. Our artist in residency programme continues with a new time plan with the following artists: Assem Hendawi (Egypt), Nelmarie du Preez (SA), Megan Rooney (UK/CA), Luise Schröder (DE), and Harun Morrison (UK).
