The Salzburger Kunstverein is a private association. Founded in 1844 it commissioned the building of the Künstlerhaus in 1884/85 that has since functioned as a centre for contemporary fine art. The Salzburger Kunstverein with the Künstlerhaus operates the most important exhibition house for contemporary art in Salzburg and is one of the most renowned houses of its kind in Austria.
