Hanna Weichselbaumer
ALL/EIN/HEIT

In the exhibition series in Café Cult #65, Hanna Weichselbaumer is showing a piece specially designed for Café Cult that deals with the interaction between text and image.

Opening: 25 July 2014, 8 pm

The installation’s main work is a wall hanging entitled “Allein-heit/All-Einheit,” which refers to the ambiguous readings of a word while simultaneously describing the situation in a café. The booklet “Dinner for One” aptly and humorously illustrates the circumstance of “Allein-heit” or alone-ness even more clearly.

When combining image and text in an artistic context, the risk is that images can be reduced to a purely illustrative moment. But this combination also opens up the possibility of creating a new level of meaning that retains openness and ambiguity in its interpretability.

The reference to the exhibition location makes visitors even more aware of the space as a “non-white cube,” while also identifying it as a (anonymous and social) forum for exchange.

Hanna Weichselbaumer, born in 1988, lives and works in Innsbruck. From 2009–2014 she studied art education under Graphic Arts professor Beate Terfloth and textile design with Christa Pichler at Mozarteum University. She primarily works with drawing and video, but sometimes also with painting and object art. In her work she deals with the interaction of text and image as well as sociological and anthropological issues, usually with a strong reference to everyday life. In 2013 she was an assistant to Sarnath Banerjee at the International Summer Academy in Salzburg. Most recently her works have been exhibited in the solo shows “Boring Is Interesting, Interesting Is Boring” in the gallery Das Zimmer and “Herumwurschteln” in Galerie Kunstwerk in Salzburg.
