1 Picture in Café
Opening: Wed, December 4, 2013, 7 p.m.
ARTgenossen was invited to present their work as part of the exhibition series in CaféCult #62. The works being shown were created during their workshops.
Many people come into the Salzburg Künstlerhaus on a daily basis. They go into CaféCult, visit the exhibits, artists, initiatives in the Künstlerhaus or programs with ARTgenossen, or they work here. We wanted to put symbolic faces on these people with our Portraits. From May to October 2013 we asked children to draw each other in our studio. We worked around the difficulty of drawing portraits of others by asking participants to draw “blind” – the results are amazing! The children also edited their own portrait photos with the monotype technique, created imaginary figures, and made collages.
ARTgenossen – Association for Cultural Education
ARTgenossen, founded in 2001 as an Association for Cultural Education in Salzburg, do educational work in art and culture in the city and state of Salzburg on an ongoing basis. We view our work as creating a foundation through project and practice oriented work with artistic/cultural content in which children and young people can experiment with art, culture, and creative design. This includes theoretical input, practical and haptic activities, as well as reflection and the conceptual connection with one’s own life. We bring our audience together with the artists – filmmakers, actors, fine artists, and many more – in order to make life behind the scenes visible to them. ARTgenossen was awarded the prize for children and youth projects by the City of Salzburg Cultural Fund in 2013.
