Gabriel Abrantes & Daniel Schmidt, Diamantino, 2018, 96 min
Curated by Séamus Kealy (IRL/AT).
Diamantino, the world’s premiere soccer star loses his special touch and ends his career in disgrace. Searching for a new purpose, the international icon sets on a delirious odyssey where he is confronted by, often unwittingly, contemporary realities of neo-fascism, the refugee crisis, genetic modification, and the hunt for the source of genius. This spell-binding, absurdist feature film depicts the fall of the best football player from his sheltered candy floss reality to a hard-hitting, perverse world, now swayed by the sentiments and rise of the nationalist right in Europe.
