From Yes to No and Back Again
Lecture by Martin Herbert

Mo, 11 December 2017, 7 pm

Martin Herbert is going to talk about the issues around his last book, Tell Them I Said No, and his next one, Unfold This Moment, and the relationship between them: the last one being about artistic withdrawal and how the art infrastructure is increasingly inhospitable to creativity, and the next one using the work of American artist Carol Bove as a prism for looking at artistic conduct and the possibilities for being creative within today’s imperfect art world.

Martin Herbert is a writer and critic based in Berlin. His critical writing appears regularly in art journals including Artforum, Frieze, Art Monthly, and ArtReview, where he is associate editor. His essays have been published in catalogues for, among others, the Museum of Modern Art, Tate Britain, Tate Modern, the Hayward Gallery, and the Serpentine Gallery. He is the author of Mark Wallinger (Thames & Hudson, 2011), The Uncertainty Principle (Sternberg Press, 2014), and Tell Them I Said No (Sternberg Press, 2016). He lectures regularly in international art schools and is on the jury for the 2017 Turner Prize.
