Videoscreening at the Sunset filmpavilion of the Salzburger Kunstverein, presented by Cinema Vertigo Expanded. Duration: approx. 95 min
“Cinema Vertigo—Rooms of our Time” is a programme of media-based video works at the fringes of the cinematic avant-garde. The screenings highlight novel formal idioms characterized by contemporary digital realities. Facing infinite aesthetic choices, the approach is taken towards a traditional question: Is cinema supposed to be a window onto the real world or rather a frame setting the scene for the presentation of art? The curatorial approach here advocates for the concept of the frame and moves towards a wider understanding of reality. When looking at contemporary notions of heterotopia, the idea that there is a simulated, inauthentic world versus a real, authentic world becomes obsolete. Instead the gaze turns to visual effects and digital technologies, examining the materials’ particular aesthetics and poetic qualities beneath the surface of the screen.
Films by Aujik, Niklas Goldbach, Rainer Kohlberger, Yukihiro Taguchi, Virgil Widrich and artists from the Schmiede Hallein artist network. Curated by Claudia Rohrmoser. A collaboration between the Salzburger Kunstverein and the Akademie Hallein. More information: www.cinemavertigo.tv
