A book tour from Kunstverein Toronto to the Kunstverein Amsterdam and the Salzburger Kunstverein:
Andrew James Paterson (Toronto, 1952) has been producing videos, music and performances for almost forty years. Now the first book of his writings is released.
Of Collection/Correction, Ruth Noack asks: “Can language be eaten? Can words be used to build a castle? Would the artist’s prose and poetry provide us with another path to culture than the one trudged by philosophy, literature and criticism? Andrew James Paterson’s writings perform for his readers the liminality between cognition and art.”
Collection/Correction is edited by Jacob Korczynski and surveys Paterson’s recent poems, scripts from his videos, and fictocriticism texts from Impulse magazine. Based in Toronto, Impulse was a contemporary art and literary magazine (1970s-1990s) edited by Eldon Garnet with editors such as Sylvère Lotringer (founder of Semiotext(e) and Willoughby Sharp, co-founder of Avalanche magazine.
Collection/Correction is co-published by Mousse Publishing and Kunstverein Toronto, a nomadic exhibition platform operating alongside Kunstverein Amsterdam. Previous publications by Kunstverein Toronto include a reprint of Carolee Schneemann’s artist’s book Cezanne, She was a Great Painter, Maryse Larivière’s book Where Wild Flowers Grow and Memoirs of a Hypnotist: 100 Days by Marcos Luytens.
