...Someone who “comes to the edge well” has taken on something they can handle. But something noted “on the edge” usually has barbs. On the edge of society is a lonely place to live and on the edge of civilization is not very comfortable. Someone at “the edge” of his or her strength or “on the edge” of the grave deserves sympathy. But the same does not necessarily apply to those who have gone over the edge. In any case, things are happening on the edge and if not, then that is dramatic in and of itself...
