”The idea for my work
(If) I Lived Here is based on the observation of the rapid development of digital technology which makes the production of moving images accessible to many people, who in turn become creators of images. This is especially true for tourists whose camcorder is an existential part of their lives. Their creativity is, however, not stimulated by the image industry, no, they keep their role as a product consumer.
The aim of
(If) I Lived Here is to channel these private image productions and to provide them with an adequate frame.“ (Sanja Ivekovic) Sanja Ivekovic invites city residents, tourists and professional picture producers from Maastricht,Tallinn and Salzburg to participate.
The mediation group ARTgenossen will organise the collection of visual material in Salzburg. A historical film recording of (If) I Lived Here Salzburg will be done by the Salzburg artist Fritz Rücker. The European tourist city markets its historically grown centre as a trademark. Visiting tourists know the images, which they see as depictions, photos, postcards and films. They wander through the city and ”arm“ their eyes with the video recorder. Sanja Ivekovic mirrors these images in the respective cities and contrasts them not only with the films of the residents, but also with the historical takes, thus producing a diverse and differentiated image of Maastricht, Tallinn and Salzburg.
All contributions are labelled with the name of the contributor. This means that the participants become co-producers and can therefore celebrate the return of their work to the place of the happening and consequently develop a new vision of each respective city.

The results of this teamwork process will be presented on the occasion of a discussion in Salzburg on 20th May 2005 at 8 p.m. (location to be announced.) On 21st May 2005 all those interested in art will have the unique opportunity to see the best contributions of (If) I Lived Here projected on a large screen in the style of an opera and sport commentary in Salzburg’s city centre.
