Ring Gallery

Dan Perjovschi
Ring me!

The Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi, who teaches at the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts Salzburg, has redesigned the Ring Gallery. The mural was implemented in July/August 2009 as a work in progress. After the successful presentation by Otto Zitko, the series will continue in loose intervals.

Dan Perjovschi works with image and text. With sparse lines, succinct phrases, and selective wordplays, Dan Perjovschi comments on hot social and culturally political subjects. Humorous, subversive, and sometime with biting irony, he cuts to the chase of complex issues and transforms drawing into a medium of information and political commentary in a critical discourse.

He thematically considers both capitalism and the financial crisis resulting from it as well as the ignorance and disorientation in society that is necessary for it. Virulent issues provoked by globalization like terrorism, pandemics, or ecological problems are caricatured, as is the art market and local, overdone Mozart and festival hysteria.

Dan Perjovschi conquers walls, rooms, and entire buildings with his drawings and expands his themes to accessible and spatially tangible installations and performances.

Recently Dan Perjovschi was at the 52nd Biennale in Venice and had a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Dan Perjovschi’s work in the Ring Gallery will be displayed until the end of august 2010.

Dan Perjovschi, born 1951 in Sibiu/RO, lives and works in Bucarest/RO
