Elizabeth Peyton: 16 Artists

Opening: August 14, 7 p.m.

The Summer Exhibition presented works by Elizabeth Peyton (born in 1965, lives in Orient, Long Island). Peyton is primarily concerned with portraiture. Her small-scale painting (oil on wood or canvas), drawings, gouaches and photographs are characterized by a highly unique radiant quality. She portrays people from many different walks of life, friends, fellow artists, pop stars, society celebrities, etc. Her subjects include people from her own immediate environment, historical figures and personalities from the world of the rich and famous made popular through media exposure – all of whom she interprets from the same perspective. For this exhibition Elizabeth Peyton has compiled a selection of her portraits of artists which includes David Hockney, Andy Warhol, Jake Chapman, Rirkrit Tiravanija and Franz Ackermann.

Elizabeth Peyton has designed a catalogue to go with the exhibition and this includes an interview with the artist by Kirsty Bell published in German and in English. Photos, biography and press text can be downloaded under > presseinfo >> Elizabeth Peyton
