The films Merchants Freely Enter (Ani Schulze) and Devier (Oona Lea von Maydell) represent two different approaches to the subject of fiction. With unusual tracking shots, Ani Schulze explores landscapes that seem straight out of a fairy-tale. Her protagonists are beings whose stories we never learn. Oona von Maydell is more likely to employ the structures of classic narrative cinema, focusing on protagonists with strong characters and including autobiographical elements as well.
