Lectures/Events
Simon Rees, formerly chief curator at the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC), Vilnius, would give an overview of recent developments in Lithuanian contemporary art-and-culture. He would focus on the opening of the National Gallery of Art (2009) and the events associated with Vilnius' European Capital of Culture year, the notional remapping of cultural imagination since EU accession in May 2004, and the way young Lithuanian artists – such as Elena Narbutaitė and Gintaras Didžiapetris – are making their way independent of larger national[ist] cultural forces.
