Cooperation of Salzburger Kunstverein and Galerie 5020 ”The lecture … is dedicated to archaic elements in Russian constructivism. After 1923 constructivists unexpectedly returned to figurative art and created ”surrogate“ pictures using the media of photomontage.
Their works were employing archetypical semantic elements typical for early medieval art. Innovators proved to be archaists.
The lecture will investigate the ”iconic“ essence of photomontages of such artists as Alexander Rodchenko, El Lissitzky and Gustav Klutsis.“ (Konstantin Akinsha)
Konstantin Akinsha, art historian and art critic, studied in Moscow and Kiev, lives in Washington DC.
