The Practice of Love

Romantic love represents a cultural ideal that is defining for both our subjective practice of love as well as media’s images of love. However, these often exaggerated images of lovers with their longings, romanticisms, and largely traditional gender roles can only be partially reconciled with our everyday life and love situations.

One focus of the Practice of Love exhibit was the artistic exploration of media and popular culture’s production of images of love. New views of familiar images through changed perspectives allow insights into how they work and their effect, while opening up new contexts of meaning.
