Elisabeth Wörndl
Desert Flowers

Opening: 30 April 2014, 7 p.m.

As part of the exhibition series in the Café Cult #64 Elisabeth Wörndl is showing her new work Desert Flowers.

These photos were taken in the Princess of Wales Conservatory in Kew Gardens, London. In the artificially arranged desert panoramas that are part of the conservatory grounds, the vision of a “real” representation of nature is created, which is intensified by the selected photographs.

Man’s modern relationship to nature is characterized by the separation from it. Nevertheless, man naturally tries to bring it into his urban space. The Princess of Wales Conservatory is an example of the tendency to conserve nature in large cities.

Elisabeth Wörndl, born in Salzburg, lives and works in Salzburg and Mondsee. She studied Fine Art Photography at the Glasgow School of Art, U.K. from 1990 to 1991. She works with photography and video, dealing with the relationship between urban space and landscape, city and nature, defining and searching for identity, as well as travel, also with regard to cultural history developments. In 2014 her works were exhibited in the group show Time and Again, Central Booking, New York, in The Walking Encyclopedia, AirSpaceGallery, Stoke, and in a solo show in the Splitter Art Gallery, Vienna.
