1 Picture in Café

Esther Moises

Opening:
Wednesday, April 24, 2013, 7 p.m.

Salzburg based artist Esther Moises was invited to create a new piece as part of the exhibition series in CaféCult #59.

In her installations Esther Moises often incorporates the people who work in the respective place. As other artists have already focused on the place – the cafe itself – in the CaféCult series, Moises was the first to look at the people who work there on a daily basis.

The artist asked the CaféCult team: “What is important to you? What is an important part of your life? What do you (especially) like to do when you aren’t working? What would you like to be surrounded by?” Important words for the CaféCult team were “leisure”, “travel”, “books”, “the way to the heart is through the stomach”, or poetry by Pablo Neruda and Erich Fried. Moises juggles these terms and develops them through associations. Suitcases are the epitome of traveling, but they also symbolize inner journeys. Books also take us to different worlds (experiences); (love) poems, on the other hand, express emotions that we often cannot find words for.

Esther Moises, born in 1974 in Innsbruck, lives and works in Salzburg. She studied painting and graphic design under Christian Ludwig Attersee at the University of Applied Art in Vienna from 1995-2002. Most recently her work was exhibited in Tauwerk, a solo show in 2012, in the Hödlmoser studio at Hohensalzburg Castle.
