Maria Morschitzky

Maria Morschitzky was showing her video “Ceaseless Mind Dance” from the series Fadenskizzen as part of the exhibition series in CaféCult #54.

The videos in the Fadenskizzen series are done with yarn in stop motion animation. The animated yarn appears to be alive, and its amorphous shapes give the impression of cells or organisms that move, come in contact with each other, and separate from each other. In the process, images emerge of approach and rejection, concentration and detachment that are reminiscent of human behavior and emotions.

The abstract bodies are perceived as cells, where the boundaries between human, animal, and plant processes are blurred. The sequences are playfully intuitive motion studies of internal and external dynamics, rhythms, relationships, affects, and dis/harmonies. Motion and transformation shape the process, rather than idleness.

Maria Morschitzky, born in 1983 in Linz, lives and works in Salzburg. From 2005 to 2011 she studied Arts Education at Mozarteum University, most recently under Beate Terfloth in the graphic design program. She was a finalist for the Ö1 talent scholarship in 2011. Last year her works were shown in the group shows Das Werdende Wissen at the Salzburger Kunstverein and Correspondence at Galerie 5020 in Salzburg.
