The leitmotif in Salzburg artist Ulrike Lienbacher’s drawings, sculptures, photographs, and videos is the body as a venue for mental and social processes. It is about attempts to cope with regulations and cultural requirements that literally bind the body like a corset, but also stripping this off and being resistant. The wild, unregulated, literally unbridled is contrasted with educational operations of cultivating, breeding, and shaping.

The artist developed an exhibition for the Salzburger Kunstverein that confronted beauty, concepts of cleanliness and dirt, and sports. Exemplary social mechanisms like motivation, improved performance, and self-control are practiced in sports. Aren’t we all exposed to growing competitive pressure and isn’t social life increasingly determined by categories of competition and success? Which body images do we base our own self-image upon? How do we behave when others can see us? One of the intentions of the exhibition, which is set up as a complete installation, is to make seeing and being seen tangible as a mutual adjustment in a reciprocal process.

On the occasion of the exhibition an edition was printed in two different colors each 25 pieces.
