David Steinbacher is the recipient of the Young Artist’s Prize of the Salzburger Kunstverein for 2003, which is funded by the regional government of Salzburg.

An excerpt from the jury’s statement: ”David Steinbacher convinced the jury with his series entitled Geteilte Sicht (Split View), on which the artist has been working continuously since 2001. Steinbacher works during the summer months for a road-marking company and takes photographs from the marking vehicle. The photos show the freshly painted dividing lines on country roads from the perspective of the road-marker. The dividing lines themselves become a serial work of art in the landscape, works in which the artist who takes the photographs is also involved.“ The jury emphasized in particular the artist’s creative and multifaceted approach to the theme of the multiple.
