Exhibition opening: April 9, 2003, 7 p.m.
Of primary concern to the film-maker and video artist Nabila Irshaid are the relationships between identity, appearance, language, place of birth and residence, nationality and religion. Having grown up in two cultures and personally experienced both cultural difference cultural blending, she perceives identity as a product of external influences and dependent upon specific contexts. Her sound installation ”violet landscapes“ (2002/03), a work which deals in a very subtle approach with aspects of the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, will be presented for the first time at the exhibition. The way in which the occupation of territory inscribes itself in the landscape is revealed as a (dubious) ”aesthetic of war“.
Nabila Irshaid, born 1964, lives in Salzburg.
