“Decline in installments – The foreseeable end of Salzburg culture”

The Salzburg state government plans to cut several million euros of cultural funding in the coming years. Devastation is threatening Salzburg’s cultural foundation, ranging from layoffs to closures of institutes. Budget cuts have been taking place in education, culture, and social affairs for years. Art and culture make up a mere two percent of the state of Salzburg’s total annual spending. This massive underfunding was already barely manageable for many, and now the threat of cutbacks has reached an unknown scale.

In response to this, the platform www.kulturland-salzburg.at called for a statewide campaign for signatures at the end of 2013 with the petition “NEIN zu Budgetkürzungen bei Kunst und Kultur – JA zum Kulturland Salzburg.” Culture Breakfast traced the structural decline by looking at different cultural institutions. Speakers included Carl Philip von Maldeghem, Robert Pienz, Thomas Randisek, and Hemma Schmutz.

An event from Initiative Kulturstadt Salzburg and Dachverband Salzburger Kulturstätten in cooperation with the Salzburger Kunstverein.
