Exhibition at Café Cult #46

Annelies Senfter
Stop - Repeat

Opening: September 22, 2010, 7 p.m.

As part of the exhibition series at CaféCult #46 Annelies Senfter presented her especially for the CaféCult designed work “Stop - Repeat.”

Everything that happens leaves traces behind, which can be perishable or indelible and seemingly intended for eternity. A trace can be fleeting and only present in our memory like a thought, or something of a material nature that holds what happened within it and is able to tell a story to those who interpret it. Events that have taken place somewhere remain tangible as a sign of the past, even if they leave no visible traces behind. (Evelyn Senfter)

You walk into a café to meet someone, to discuss something, or simply to ponder your thoughts. After you pay the bill, you stand up, and a few minutes later the table is cleared. It is as though no one was ever there.

Photography has the quality of being able to capture moments. A mood, the light at a certain time in a certain place. The photos in the room were all taken in the café. Hanging the images in this room is a repetition of what is already here. As though I pressed stop with my camera and “replay” on the walls. The photographs reflect my personal perception of this space. At the same time, they make things visible that are often not perceived at all or not in this manner. They represent an attempt to thwart the fleetingness of a stop in a café with something lasting. (Annelies Senfter)
