Ines Doujak
Dirty Old Women

Opening: April 27, 2005, 7 p.m.

Already before the exhibition at Salzburger Kunstverein Ines Doujak has worked on “Dirty Old Women” for a long time, a project that dealt with the position, representation and the experiences of older women in contemporary society.

In Salzburg the artist ran a series of workshops (like 2004 in Vienna and Barcelona) inviting female participants, mostly senior citizens, to reflect on these themes and to produce their own artwork. These artworks and images were collated to produce a newspaper, also serving as a poster design, which was exhibited in public spaces. A “Call for Pictures” asked for non-clichéd photos of older women. These were used to design costumes that were modelled as part of the exhibition launch event.
