Since February the exhibition cabinet is the setting of open and interactive projects focussing on the topic of television. The whole structure revolves around participation of various dimension and form — longer, shorter, concretely planned and also (within a framework) spontaneous programme contributions - and can therefore be compared to a permanent “zapping” effect: In exhibitions lasting several weeks, Austrian artists deal with aspects of television production, distribution and reception through the media of drawing, photography, painting and woodcut. Martina Steckholzer “tv-studio” The motives of Martina Steckholzer’s conceptual paintings are places of art and culture conveyance. Videotapes of showrooms and TV studios serve as model for her paintings. By inserting a camera into the process of finding images a seemingly objective and at the same time hasty technical level is imposed. The documentary aspect of the video recordings shifts to deconstruction of space in her paintings. Steckholzer aims at breaking conventional perceptions of space by her use of colour and texture and the noncompliance with perspective laws. The title of her series “tv:studio” refers to the TV studios of the ORF center in Vienna, where amongst other programmes “Treffpunkt Kultur” is recorded.

Martina Steckholzer, born 1974 in Sterzing/South Tyrol, lives in Vienna.
