Franz Riedl
Multiple 2003

Exhibitions series CaféCult #20

Presented under the title “Prototypes,” the Annual Exhibition of the Salzburger Kunstverein for 2003/2004 realized a new concept. The show focused on concepts and prototypes for multiples. The definition employed for the purposes of the exhibition was very broad and included all works of art that can be produced in series. A total of 43 artists submitted works this year. The jury selected 23 artists and groups for the exhibition.

The jury recommended Franz Riedl’s work “Variables Objekt (Kreisring)/Variable Object (Ring)” of 2003 for production as a multiple. Composed of several curved lengths of wood, the object can be assembled in a number of different ways. The basic form is a circle. In this object, Riedl has realized an expanded concept of the multiple which deliberately incorporates interplay between the producer and the viewer into the work.
