Petra Egg: ”Grand Tour”
Within the series ”Areas of Action”

Opening: 11 June, 2003, 7 p.m.

Petra Egg’s methodology involves quotation, appropriation and reprocessing. She draws existing material from the everyday world and the realm of art and transforms it in a broad range of different media, combining allusions to art history and motifs by fellow artists with earlier works of her own. Petra Egg’s presentation at this exhibition includes a video based upon a collection of postcards she has arranged by subject — a sequel to the ”Post“ exhibition shown at the Galerie Eboran in Salzburg in 1998. Motifs from the 1960s and 1970s, the era of the great Economic Wonder, appear against the background of quotations from literary travel accounts from different periods, questioning the process through which the tourist’s view of the world is shaped by images and literary descriptions.

Petra Egg, born in Tyrol, lives in Vienna.
